Lifting and Slinging on Conveyors training (BS7121 & GS539)
Background to the course:
This course is an interactive learning programme based on the BS7121 and GS539 standards, specifically designed to ensure delegates extend their safety knowledge, skills and understanding to actively reduce risk.
This course incorporates Competent Persons Certificated Training in the safe build and use of mobile aluminium scaffolding.
Aimed At:
All those whose work activities, duties & responsibilities involve lifting and slinging operations.
Course Structure and Methods:
The course is made up of two modules which are structured around the standards essential to ensuring trainees have the knowledge skills and understanding to implement a safe system of work.
The first module (day 1) involves classroom based learning of the relevant theory. British and International Standards, Safe Systems of Work and Industry Codes of Best Practice. A knowledge based assessment test concludes this module.
The second module (day 2) involves practical on plant learning exercises in a real work environment to give trainees first hand experience in lifting, rigging, slinging and safe build & use of aluminium scaffolding to a maximum of 2 metre tower. Practical competency is then assessed.
Trainees must pass both the knowledge test and the practical assessment of the application of knowledge & skills in order to obtain certification.
On completion of this course trainees should have the ability to control risk, understand relevant standards and legislation. Be competency certificated to able to implement safe systems of work in the use of lifting gear.

Module 1 (day 1) - Classroom Based Learning
- Health and Safety at work - Act 1974
- Relevant legislation
- Tackle identification and correct use
- Tackle and equipment examination and inspection
- Determination and assessment of safe working load
- Principles of load turning, pulling and transferring
- Use of lifting appliances
- Duties and responsibilities
- Knowledge assessment examination
Module 2 (day 2) - Practical Based On-Site
- Tackle and Equipment
- Tackle and appliance inspection
- Use of blocks and tackle on a wide range of lifts
- Load turning
- Load transference
- Lifts involving the use of other equipment, e.g. cranes
- Assessment of skill and competence
