Skirting

Ace Sureseal skirtingThe Ace Sureseal principle is a well proven solution to a problem area on the conveyor system. The idea is based on the ‘labyrinth’ seal, where material is presented with multiple barriers to prevent escape. The four barriers and associated gaps are ‘self cleaning’. Closeup of Ace Sureseal skirting installed on a customers siteThe moving belt under the sureseal ensures that any material passing the rubber ridges is carried along inside the skirt profile, and later ejects into the main material flow. Having four barriers, Sureseal presents a 100% totally effective sealing arrangement for dust and fine particles at the load point of the conveyor.

The essential design features are:

  • The size and spacing of the rubber profile. The raised ridges are designed for minimum contact with the belt whilst the thickness and overall weight of the rubber combined with the curved installation profile ensure that the contact pressure is sufficient to maintain an effective seal. This means that the the life of the skirt rubber is maximised, and the wear area on the belt is kept to a minimum. The depth of the seal allows the rubber profile to sag and follow the belt line between idler sets, maintaining a continuous seal on the belt surface.
  • The rubber specification. Sureseal rubber is manufactured as standard in high quality SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) which has excellent abrasion properties. Rubber hardness is controlled to very tight tolerances to a specific shore hardness which is lower than the hardness of rubber used in conveyor belting. This ensures that whilst providing excellent wear characteristics, Sureseal wears in preference to the belt.
  • Support track design. The support track is designed with simplicity of installation in mind. The 1200mm (4’) long tracks each have four equally spaced mounting brackets. Simply bolt or weld mounting studs to the sides of the skirt plates or chute, attach the tracks and slide in the rubber. (New rolls of Sureseal are coated in powdered french chalk at the factory to enable easy installation)
